    1. Stretching and Mobility
In previous editions of this Chronicle, we talked about some fundamental "static" stretching exercises that will assist with increasing mobility. Given the ease with which this can be used, it is something that every sufferer of arthritis should be doing every day.
    2. Disk Disease and Your Pet
As most of you know, disk disease affects a great many of us. In fact, it is common to find evidence of this in most aging adults. However, it can also be a very real issue for your pets as well.

A little food for thought

By J. R. Rogers

I am always being asked questions about little “extras” that help people in dealing with arthritis. It goes with the territory in my business. Of course, we have Syn-flex® on the top of my list. It has a very long and successful history. When you add a little common sense like keeping weight under control and exercise you generally have a solid regimen to manage it.

But, as with any other medical issue there are always some “good things you can do for your body.” Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Research and tea

The research studies are uniformly in favor of drinking green tea and with good reason. Green tea contains polyphenols which are a key to reducing inflammation caused by arthritis. If you are (currently) a coffee drinker you might try to switch over to some green tea. It definitely has benefits.

Fruit lovers delight

If you enjoy fruit, grapes are another excellent choice for you. The key is not the grape itself but rather the skin. Grape skins are rich in resvertrol which acts as a COX-2 inhibitor. It slows the effects of the COX-2 gene (and) it shortcuts the COX-II enzyme. That is important because the COX-II enzyme causes inflammation in and around the areas where the arthritis strikes.

Vitamins

We added Vitamin C to Syn-flex® because this is a vitamin that is known to slow down the loss of cartilage. Of course, cartilage loss is a critical issue for those who suffer from OA.

I do not recommend going out and supplementing beyond what is provided in Syn-flex®. There is enough here to make a difference if you suffer from arthritis.

I (do) recommend that if you are not eating a well-rounded diet that you use a good supplement. And, you certainly do not have to go to the internet to find what some call “the best vitamin.” Your local drugstore or supermarket has many brands and they are not expensive.

As always, take the time to “take care of yourself.” That is critical.

See you next time.
