The Omega Factor

By J.R. Rogers

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are known and understood to be essential fats since they are generally obtained by ingesting foods. (As opposed to “processed” or saturated fats.) What is important for you to understand is that your body needs Omega 3 and 6.

So what does that mean to those who suffer from Osteoarthritis? Your body converts saturated fats into PG2, which has an inflammatory effect on your body. On the other hand, both Omega 3 (PG3) and Omega 6 (PG1) have an anti-inflammatory effect on your body. By now you should all be aware that part of your pain problems associated with osteoarthritis results from inflammation.

An interesting observation was made in some clinical studies in the mid-1990’s that is noted in Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution. (Avon books) The doctor suggests that a principal ingredient in the fight against all arthritis should be Omega 3 fatty acids. And why is that? Because this essential acid clearly demonstrates that Omega 3 relieves both pain and inflammation.

What may be most interesting about Dr. Atkin’s recommendation is that clinical studies have confirmed that the use of Omega 3 standing alone dramatically reduced the pain suffered by those with Rheumatoid Arthritis allowing them to lessen their dependence on other drugs. That is not to say I recommend using an osteoarthritis product to deal with Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is simply to report this finding about the pain-relieving properties of Omega 3 that Dr. Atkin’s found.

This leads us full circle back to some of the other methods of successfully beating arthritis pain. Namely, that diet in general also plays a significant role in the overall picture. If we eat less saturated fats, we are in effect taking away one of our body’s means of producing inflammation. Conversely, by increasing our intake of Omega 3 and Omega 6 we are assisting and encouraging our body to produce anti-inflammatory defense mechanisms.

Are there any other benefits that we might gain through he use of Omega 3 and Omega 6? The answer is clearly “yes.”

Arteriosclerosis is cited as the greatest factor in deaths in this country today. (Thickening in the lining of artery walls, which lead to heart disease.) The ingestion of Omega 3 and Omega 6 therefore benefits our bodies in still one more way. We actually reduce the risk of developing heart disease and suffering cardiac arrest.

Arthritis in Family Pets

By J.R. Rogers

Approximately 25-30% of family pets suffer from osteoarthritis. Stiffness, pain and swelling that your pet experiences, is really no different than what you as a human being would. Although there are some differences that go to the cause of the disease, that is really not the important issue here. This issue is one of addressing it.

They can't discuss their pain...
You have to be especially vigilant with your pets. Unlike humans, most of their OA develops almost immediately after trauma to their bodies. In other words, the onset can and is often within weeks of even a minor injury as opposed to years for a human.

What Glucosamine can do for those other family members...
A typical response (if diagnosed) by a veterinarian is to prescribe NSAIDS (aspirin, aleve, motrin, etc.) for pain. In the more severe cases, steroids or even surgery may be suggested. The first approach is absolutely wrong and often causes undesirable side effects even though your pet may experience some pain relief. The latter approach borders on even more dangerous consequences.

Glucosamine combined with other ingredients like Chondroitin, Boswellin, and Omega 3 will ease your pet's OA pain within a matter of about ten days. In extremely severe cases, it might take thirty days. Results will most likely appear quicker using a high quality liquid glucosamine rather than a powdered or pill form. You will be able to see the results in the way in which your pet is behaving.

Of equal importance, the glucosamine and other ingredients will go to work immediately to not only slow the progression of the OA, it will actually begin the process of restoring healthy and resilient cartilage to your animal. What should be of some importance to all of you is that this can be accomplished at a minimal cost and without the inconvenience of repeated visits to your vet.

"The Arthritis Cure"

The Arthritis Cure and Maximizing the Arthritis Cure
Jason Theodosakis, M.D., M.S., M.P.H., Brenda
Adderly, M.H.A. & Barry Fox, PhD.

Undoubtedly, this is the most widely read book on the market today for osteoarthritis sufferers. It is easy to see why.

This book does its best to explain what is a fairly complicated medical issue in straightforward terms. For that reason, it makes it much easier for the reader to get some understanding of not only what their illness is all about, but as well it explains the significance of glucosamine and its role as a pain reducing agent and ability to rehabilitate damaged cartilage.
