Glucosamine and Chondroitin: Building Blocks of Cartilage

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance in our body.  Glucosamine is an amino sugar that acts as a building block for the molecule glycosaminoglycan. Our body relies on this molecule to build and repair cartilage. As we age, Glucosamine levels tend to diminish, as our bodies lose the ability to produce sufficient levels of it.  Having sufficient levels of Glucosamine is essential to the production of nutrients we need for repairing damaged cartilage, creating new cartilage growth, increasing synovial fluid (lubrication of the joints), and slowing the progression of joint disease.

Glucosamine is often paired with Chondroitin, as studies show that when they are combined together, it improves the absorption of the Glucosamine.  Chondroitin is a naturally occurring substance in the body as well.  Its purpose is to attract fluid and nutrients into the proteoglycan molecules.  It creates an increased flow of fluid into the cartilage to protect the joints and add resiliency.

Since many of us do not produce enough of these substances on our own, it is important to supplement them into our diet.  It is almost impossible to supplement these compounds through food, so a trusted liquid formula supplement that uses both Glucosamine and Chondroitin is preferred.  A deficiency of these components can lead to various joint diseases, such as Osteoarthritis (OA).  OA is the most common degenerative joint disease, affecting over 20 million individuals in the United Sates alone.  The condition decreases mobility and flexibility, while causing pain and inflammation.  Many people worldwide count on Glucosamine supplements to help alleviate their symptoms and their fight against Osteoarthritis.
