Glucosamine is Effective and Safe For You

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis.  It is caused by the break down and deterioration of cartilage in the joints.  Cartilage acts like a cushion between the bones in your joints. For example, the knee and hip are two primary sites of Osteoarthritis.  This deterioration causes stiffness and pain.  For relief, people often take NSAID’s (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) like Aspirin or Ibuprofen.  These types of pain relievers do have side effects that people are often unaware of, such as nausea, vomiting, bleeding, etc.  However, a safer alternative for you may be Glucosamine.  Glucosamine is already found in the body.  It is a natural compound, made from Glucose and Glutamine, which are amino acids.  Glucosamine helps produce Glycosaminoglycan, which aids in the formation and repair of cartilage and keeps the joints well lubricated.  Glucosamine may also help in the re-growth of cartilage.  Glucosamine, like vitamins and nutrients, can be taken as an oral supplement and is used by many sufferers of Osteoarthritis.  Glucosamine is not found in foods, so if your body is not producing an adequate amount of the compound, it is crucial to supplement.  Glucosamine can make your joints healthier, unlike NSAID’s, which only mask the symptoms. Be aware however, that you must be patient and allow two to four weeks of daily Glucosamine use to feel the effects.  Liquid Glucosamine, like Synflex®, may go to work on your Osteoarthritis symptoms faster due to the bioavailability of the liquid (liquid may be readily available to your system, when compared to pills or capsules that take longer to enter the system).

In its new guidelines for management of Osteoarthritis, The Osteoarthritis Research Society International suggests taking medication, when necessary, along with non-pharmacological approaches, such as exercise, Glucosamine Sulfate supplements, and weight control.  A report in the International Journal of Tissue Reactions, conducted with 606 patients with Osteoarthritis, showed that Glucosamine Sulfate was as effective as Ibuprofen for pain relief and improved mobility. The adverse side effects were over five times higher with the NSAID, Ibuprofen. Another advantage to Glucosamine supplementation is that it not only relieves pain, but can also stop the disease’s advancement.
