Shoulder Pain

If there is one joint in the body that has versatility it is the shoulder. There is no other joint that has the range and corresponding ability. Unfortunately, it is also the one that is most prone to frequent injury.

What's the problem?

The reason your shoulder is likely to sustain injuries, is because of its structure. Unlike other joints, your shoulder has very few ligaments to hold it in place. That means the muscles and tendons have to carry the bulk of the support functions and for that reason, injuries are constantly a risk.

The Diagnosis

At some point in time, all of us experience shoulder pain. It can be attributed to osteoarthritis (commonly the problem); tendonitis or bursitis. If you are using a high quality glucosamine product and still continue to experience pain, it may be something other than OA. If the glucosamine product you are using does not contain all-natural anti-inflammatories, you are likely going to have to rely on NSAID's (Ibuprofen, Naproxen or the like) to control pain That is not a desirable approach for the many reasons that we have stated over and over again.

Ending the pain without NSAID's

If you want to ease the pain without the risk of using NSAID's, make certain you are using a glucosamine formula that contains all-natural anti-inflammatories. In approximately 99% of all cases, the pain is going to disappear.

Warm Compresses and Sleep Habits

Two additional steps will assist you in dealing with shoulder pain. First, use warm or hot compresses (a heating pad) on the affected area 4-5 times daily. Limit this to about 10-15 minutes with each application. Second, if you sleep on your back (as most do) try placing a pillow under the shoulder that is giving you trouble. Combining these two steps with the use of a glucosamine formulation utilizing all-natural anti-inflammatories will usually put the discomfort to rest within 7-10 days. In the tougher cases, it may take a little longer.

The Rotator Cuff

Those are sensible approaches to the problem and as mentioned, your discomfort should end fairly quickly. However, if you reach a point where you are several weeks into this regimen and you have not experienced any relief, it is possible that you have torn your rotator cuff. In this case, you may have to have surgery to correct the problem.

The Medical Community

There are a great many physicians out there that unfortunately, are not as well educated about the use of all-natural products when approaching pain issues. As well, most are so set in their ways that they are quick to dismiss them as "not effective." Most of you know better and if you can avoid surgery, all the better.
